CONVENT PUPILS’ CONCERT.

There was a large and enthusiastic ■ gathering, at the Drill Hall on Friday night, when the pupils of the local Con vent gave a concert, in aid of the funds of the institution. As the programme comprised 28 items, the Rev. Father Saunderson explained that there would be no encores, nevertheless, the applause which greeted each item demonstrated! that each was thoroughly appreciated. There were no dull moments, and the junior pupils made themselves great favourites as a result of the excellent way in which their items were given. The adults also gave a line rendering of the various items, allotted to them. The stage presented a bright scene when the curtain rose showing the children arranged in four tiers, attired in dresses which harmonised beautifully. The concerted items by Misses Mackie, Harle. Wareham, Peoples and Burland were much appreciated; “The Rag Dolls,” by the pupils, was most amusing anu interesting, as also was “Coach and Four,” Master C. Wareham being the soloist, and acting his part in line style: “Matilda at the Piano,” by the senior girls, provoked much laughter; “Do Play with Me,” Misses S. Peoples ano S. Miles, was well performed. “The Merry Milk Maids,” by the junior pupils, and “Hoops,” by the senior pupils, were both most interesting- items. Misses Mackie and Burland, in A.8.C.. did particularly well, and the perform ers had to come before the lights again. Miss Birdie Kerr recited ‘‘ A Terrible Dream” in excellent style; Misses K. Kerr and U. Smith performed “Story Without Words” in a splendid manner; Miss Iris McCallum was most successful in “Lilac Tree”; Miss S. Peoples gave * 4 Mister Bear” in a finished manner; Mssi U. Smith recited ‘ ‘ Blackpool ’ ’ in characteristic fashion, and Miss Mollie Keehan was most pleasing in “Three Green Bonnets.” The whole programme was carried out in a manner which reflected great credit on those responsible for instructing the pupils, and the concert well merited the success achieved. The Rev. Father Saunderson, at the con elusion of the performance, on behalf of the Sisters of the Convent, thanked all who had assisted to make the concert such a pronounced success, also the people as a whole for the whole-hearted support accorded the entertainment. Miles; vocal quartette, “Last Rose of Summer,” Misses Mackie, Wareham, Burland, and Peoples; action song, “Merry Milkmaids,” junior pupils; recitation, “A Terrible Dream,” Miss Bridie Kerr: solo, “By the Waters of Minnatonka,” Misses Wareham, J. Wareham (violin), E. Wareham (piano); pianoforte trio. “Sleigh Ride,” Misses Gibson, Miles, and Hayward; dance, “Story Without Words,” Miss K. Kerr ami U. Smith; character song, “Rag Dolls,” pupils; solo, “Lilac Tree,” Miss Iris McCallum; duct ,“Valse Brilliante” (Moskowski), Misses M. Mackie ami Al. Peoples; character song, “Three Ole Maids,” Misses Mackie, Wareham, Borland ami Peoples; solo, “Mister Bear,”’ Miss S. Peoples; instrumental quartette. “Mocking Eyes,” Misses Mackie. Harle, and Wareham; character song. “Hunters,” pupils; song. “Heave Ho!” boys; recitation, “Blackpool.” Miss U. Smith; drill spectacular, ‘‘Hoops,” senior pupils; vocal solo.
