sumption. The Consumption of wool in the United Kingdom, United .States, France, Belgium, Japan and Italy for 1922 was 2,290,000,000 pounds, as compared with 1,586,900,000 pounds for 1912. All these countries showed substantial individual increases. Germany, however, during 1912, took 525,000,000 pounds, whereas its consumption for 1922 was 425,000,000 pounds. Production is short, although the flocks of New Zealand at last tally showed an increase of roughly 800,000, as compared with the previous counting. The wool sold in New Zealand from Ist November to 31st Afarch, was 479,695 bales. It averaged £23 6/11 per bale, or 16d per lb. The quantities sold in the North Island wore 303,541 bales, and in the South Island 176,154 bales. The prices realised in each island were:— North Island 14 Jd, or £22 0/5 per bale, South Island 18Ad, or £25 12/6 per bale. The value, of the clip sold in New Zealand was £11,198,579.
