A submarine boat, that is destined to enact an important part in warfare, has been tested by Prince Waldemar, of Denmark. In form it is like a fish, and can descend below submerged chains in harbours, and can cut cables and wires with shears at its keel. Two men, who work the vessel, have stayed in it several hours under weter without inconvenience. They take with them a supply of oxygen, and they can eat their meals quite comfortably. It is older than the first real bank in Europe—that of Barcelona (1401); exactly three centuries separate the date of issue from the establishment of the Bank of Stockholm (1668), which was the first bank in Europe to issue notes; and it is only a century later than the pieces of stamped leather—the prototypes of European banknotes—which were issued by the Emperor Frederick 11. at the seige of Faenza in 1241.
