Mr W J Barry, who was called to Chriarchurcb through the serious illness of his mother, returned to Re°fton by Friday evening’s express.

Mrs R. Ashley, who has been on a visit to her parents, Mr and Mrs W. Mitchell, The Terrace, left on rsturn to Blenheim yesterday.

Mrs T. Hatnpson, who has been on a visit to her daughter, Mrs Doohan, Wellington, returned by Saturday evening's train via Christchurch.

Mr T. Hampsen of Weikare. arrived here yesterday. He left Waikare on Saturday morning, and reached I the Realey at 6 p.m. thence over the Gorge to Reefton.

Mr R. Wilson, well known in Reefton, ’s at present an inmate of St. George’s Hospital. Christchurch. He writes to *ay he is doing very well, but expects to be in the institution for some weeks

The death is announced at Sydney of Captain Leonard John Burkitt, aged 62, who was chief mate on the steamer eiingamite, which was wrecked on the "hree Kings off the New Zealand coast in 1902.

The death is reported at Christchurch >n Saturday of Mr William Isaac-*, Bolam, until recently tru9t officer in Christchurch for the N.Z. Insurance Company. The deceased was a native of Northumberland and cams to the Dominion in 1883. The late Mr Bolam is survived by a widow, a daughter and two 30ns, one of tbe latter being Mr John Bolam, who for a time was teller at tbe Bank of New Zealand, Reefton.

The death occurred suddenly at Nelson on Saturday evening of Mr David Anderson Stracban, retired School Inspector. Born in Montrose, Scotland, in 1871, he was the eldest son of the late James Strachan, shipowner and shipbuilder. Deceased came to New Zealand in 1877. In 1902 be was appointed Inspector under the Nelson Education Board, and since then as Inspector at Marlborough, Hawke’s Bay, Southland and Wellington, retiring five years ago. He is survived by a widow and two brothers and two sisters.
