An application by MrK. J. Holyoake, M.P, for the establishment of a school at Maggie Greek, Howard, was held over for further information. An invitation to be present at the opening of the new school at Reefton on Tuesday, 27th March, was j received and accepted. j | The Minister wrote approving of a grant of £l5O towards ground improvements at Westport, subject to the balance required being found by the Board and the Committee. The application for an additional gate adjacent to the Dental Clinic was held over. Grants for the installation of electric light at Riwaka for the school and the dwelling, and at Waiuta for the teacher’s dwelling were made. The Minister of Education, in reply to the Board’s resolution, urging reduction of school age of admission to five years stated it was not possible to be done at present. From same congratulating the pupils under the Nelsou Education Board on the excellent attendance during 1933. Dr. A. G. Paterson, Director of School Hygiene, was present, and gave a resume of the work done during the past year. The Secretary stated it had beeD found necessary to close the Big River school owing to epidemic. It was decided to congratulate J . Nichools of Millerton of having only missed one half day tor 8% years. The report of Mr H. E. Longworth, Physical Instructor for the Nelsou district, was laid on the table, until the report of the whole district had been received. The Agricultural Instructor’s monthly report was received. Miss McGovern was appointed in charge of the special class at the .Westport school. The resignation of T. C. Hepburn as assistant teacher at Reefton was accepted.
