JAPANESE COLONIES.
IN CHILE. (Par United Proas Awn.) WELLINGTON, Last Night. A reply, that so far as he knew there could be no truth in the possibility of an arrangement being made in Southern Chile to allow the establishment of colonies of Japanese there, was made to-day by Mr R. Duncan Smith, the Chilean Consul for Australia and New Zealand, who is visiting Wellington. Mr (Smith remarked it seemed to him that the recent cablegram could not amount to anything. Chile was in just about the same condition as New Zealand, having considerable unemployment, and he could not imagine immigration of any kind being started there. v **
