A PAINTER ELECTROCUTED

(Per United Press Assn.) HAWERA, Last Night. About 2.30 tliis afternoon, a painter, R. J. Squire, over 70 years of age, met his death by electrocution. Deceased was walking on top of a verandah at a house, when he came in contact with the electric light house connection wires and death was apparently instantaneous. Deceased was observed lying across the wires and when taken down was found to have a flesh bum, seven inches in length on one side of the neck.

The house connection wires were found to be devoid of protective covering from the terminals to the porcelain conduct leading into the house. Fresh paint was observed on the woodwork near the wires and it is presumed that deceased was painting m that portion of the building on his knees and his hand touched the wires. Squire had resided in Hawera for some 65 years.
