PERSONAL NOTES.

Among those who were successful in passing at ;he accountancy examination of the University of New Zealand was V. D. Rollerson (Westport) son of Mr and Mrs Rollerson of Reefton.

Mr and Mrs R. Don, Nelson, arrived in Reefton on Saturday, and will spend the term holidays with the latter’s mother, Mrs Alborn.

Mrs F. Cate with son and daughter arrived in Reefton from Christchurch on Saturday evening, and will spend the Xmas and New Year in Reefton.

Master James Griffiths of Birchfield, has won the Tinline scholarship for the Nelson province, which is one of the most coveted scholarships in the Nelson district.

Mr R. Thomas, who has been in Christchurch for medical treatment, returned by Saturday evening’s express, considerable improved in health.

While returning to Black’s Point on Saturday, Mr F. Sara met with a rriahap through the handle bar of bis bicycle, breaking and throwing him heavily on the road. He received a severe shock and facial injuries while his son who was riding with him suffered similar injuries. Both were attended to by Dr. Conlon and are now progressing favourably.

The death occurred at the Buller Hospital last night, of an old and highly esteemed resident of Westport, Murchison and Lyell, in the person of Mrs Mairs. Deceased was a native of Plymouth, England, 76 years of age and had resided at New Zealand for 60 years. She landed at Nelson with her late parents, Mr and Mrs Oxnam, and was the last of the old family. Surviving are three sons, Mr A. Mairs of Westport ; Mr A Hill, of Little Warganui, and Mr S. Mairs, of Sydney.
