VISIONS OF GREAT WEALTH lIOW PEOPLE ARE DELUDED Visions of wealth that have deluded handteds of people all ovei Britain vaoish into nothingness as the result of in* vestigalions recently conc’uded. Those folks who regarded themselves as potential claimants to the. so-called "Metcalfe Milions” are assured that this fortune is but a myth. TLeir hopes were raised some time ago by a tale that went round to the effect that a Metcalfe, who bailed from Upper Wharfedale, had died in America, and left an estate va'ued I at 000,000, which was lying in trus* awaiting distribution to desccndao s who could make good their claim?. The result was a host of communications from soscailed descendants. The story excited particular interest i in the Skipton district, where there are many Metcalfe’s some ef whom asked solicitors to assist their claims. Unfort« unately no concrete evidence was foith coming of the existence of the legacy. Among the co respondents were some who after making, inqoi ie-, N -Manchester ( nbe’result* that an. investigating committee was ap. pointed. i The committee examined evidence! on the subject garnered from all parts of the coun ry and abroad. The result of their investigations is the following unanimous conclusion.

(1) That there is no such fortune, as is stated held in Chancery Courts of Bris tain, nor rs there any evidence that there ever has been.

(2) That tht-re is no evidence that • here is, or ever has been such a fortune held by any bank in the country. (That there is no evidence that there now is such a fortune held by any court, bank or trustee in any other country or colony. Mr Metcalfe states that during his ins vestigations he found cause to believe that an organisation, with headquarters in the United States and agents in various countries, exists for the purpose of circulating false stories of these mythical fortunes, deriving an income from those imagining that they may have some'claim
