Union Matters The Watersiders' Award
Greymouth, Oct 2. In deciding that the old Watersiders' Union award of 1913 is no longer valid, and that the Union Steamsliip Company had not committed a breach of 'such award by employing the new unionists and entering into an agreement with the same, the Arbitration Court's judgment comments on the fact the old union seems to regard the award much as the Germans regard the International Treaty.~as a " mere scrap of paper "—binding on them if, and only when, it suited their own purposes. And just as the German view has been condemned by all the civilised nations as absolutely restrictive of international morality and good faith, so the Court thinks it the union's view of an award were to prevail it would be absolutely destructive of industrial morality and good faith*
