THE Band Contest success. And wn because Reefton the effort to nuke ifPsßi The thanks of the community are due to those who have achieved ,a brilliant success for Reefton. The spirit displayed ysras admirable. At the rosetted committeemen paid their way again and again. Workers refused to take money for their work, and material w&s supplied on the mo.t reasonable terms. Girls volunteered to push the sale of tickets, and young men worked hard to do the same. And favoured by the weather, the function proved a great success. , The turn-out was worthy of a larger town, and deeply impressed the visitors—many saying they had not thought there were so many people in Reefton. The management strained every nerve to work the whole affair without , a hitch, and the Secretary of the West Coast Brass Band Associa- , tion infofmed us that it was a most admirably conducted meeting, that there was, not a flaw anywhere. It shows what Reefton people can do if "they have a mind." It is indeed this mind that is the moving spirit that achieves success. And this will mean the benefit of each and every one in this town. Success in our schools means better educational facilities for our little ones. The life that moved lin our streets the last two days left no one the poorer. The dryness and the weariness of a stagnant town had gone. Instead, there was movement, fresh faces and hurrying Men will gladly come to a town thus alert. To the worker, the bustle brings fiesh ideas —brings him and his in contact with the educating influence of music, of drill, of discipline. It is something to hear, something to see, something to talk about, something his sons growing up will applaud and, grown up, pursue. The pleasure that was given was an exhUiarating, ennobling pleasure, and one that no man will regret having given to his wife and family, To the members of the Inangahua Brass Band the town extends its congratulations It met its old opponent, the Westport Garrison Band, the one it beat by a point last year, and mar'e a great effcrt to retain its superiority.
