LYELL MINING

(By Telegraph.— Own Correspondent.) UNITED ALPINE. Ltxll, June 7. The ree' in the stopes mil average two feet wide, and I am of opinion that it haa somewhat improved in quality at the south e<_d of tbe block. Tbe winze has been sunk a total distance of 25 feet. There is. no noteworthy change since my last report, consequently I have suspended - the sinking and started the drive on the track at No. 7 level. We have driven 14 feet in the level on the track, but no change has taken pace. The footwall ig well definnd and carries a little pug with occasional veins of quartz. The contractors for the incline hauling shaft are making progress with the cleaning out of the winze, and wiil- have it completed, iome time next week. The new winch works fairly well at present. LYELL CREEK. We have been engaged putting in large air pipes and repairing the tramway in the main tunnel. The distance completed is about 2000 feet. I expect to complete all dead work by the end of next week when I shall ■tart driving on the reef. COCKsPARROW DREDGE. We have been prospecting all the lime since the meeting as the river is not low enough to open out on tbe Other ground yet. We struck vnry good gold at the flax-bush fall yesterday. It is very rough grouud, and I could not bottom for large boulders, but will try to-day a little higher uj. Once bottomed there would be no difficulty about working the ground, but unless we can get the bottom I think it will be difficult and rough to work. This ground prospects better than any I have seen before in sinking about here.
