The Eumara Jockey Club in deciding to disqualify Dotterill, who won the Hack race at their late meeting for having won a stake of over £14, according to the conditions imposed upon such horses enteriug, committed in my opinion au error. The race won by Dotterill was purely a. private match, and should not have barred Dotterill from getting the stakes won at Eumara'. Dottorill's win jvas, I understand, as follows : — The owner of Dotterill's sire gave,£lo to be competed for by the progeny of such sire. Five entered and subscribed a farther sum of £1 each ; the match was run and Dotterill won. Now, such being the nature of the race, Ido not think any penalty could be incurred. Dotterill would still be entitled to ba classed as a maiden, provided he had not previously won,' arid such being j the case, I fail to see why theKumara Club should disqualify— in fact I would
like to know under what rule they disqualified for a private match? With regard to the Musket Stakes dispute- Mr Hungarford has offered to run Wakawatea against North Atlantic for the value of the prize given in that race. . The winning payments for the Auckland Uacing Club's summer meeting amounted to £4025. Of this the popu--1 r West Coast sport, Mr T. W. Hungerford, annexed a nice little cheque for £517 15s. This was the second largest amount paid in stakes, the highest winner being Mr W. Bobbett, who took £541 10. On ths settling night for the Westland Racing Club's meeting amounts were paid over as follows:—Blackmore, £85 10s ; Uobba, £68 103 ; Moore, £23 10a; Clarkson, £19; Dr M'Brearfcy, £19 ; M'Connon, £28 15s; Noble, £14 53 ; Stewart, £9 103 ; Havill, £4 15s. Total, £270 153. I Mr T. W. Hnngerford's black colt: i by Apremont- Becky sustained a j pompon nd- fracture of the leg through a kick from" another horse on Sundaylast, and had to destroyed. The loss-, is rather a seygre one, as the colt gavfr great promise of eclipsing his champion two-year-old brother, Whakawatea, and was nominated for all the principal juvenile events in New Zealand: next season. .
