The half-yearly meeting of shareholders was held at Dawson's Hotel, on Thursday evening last. The meet " ing was very largely attended. In presenting the report for the past halfyear, Mr W. The opening up of the mine had -.been made- to ■ keep pace; with the progress of the works on the surface, and it was confidently expec-j ted that in about two months time the first crushing would be started. The whole of the ditching has been excavated, and levels proved, and the fluming, now under contract, will be completed in about six weeks. Good headway is being made with the tail-raoe and turbine pit, and about three weeks will see these works out of hand. Tho machine house is finished, the foundation of the battery laid, and the machinery is in course of erection under the active and efficient superintendence of the representative of Messrs Kincaid & M'Queen. The trestles for carrying the aeriel tramway are being erected, all the preliminary work of clearing the line, levelling etc., having been completed. The shareholders are to be congratulated upon the very efficient .and satisfactory manner* in which the whole of the arrangements have been carried out. The undertaking was an extensive one, the battery being one of the largest yet erected in the field, and the water race and aeriel tramway are undertakings of considerable magnitude, yet the prosecution of the work's ha&goneon from first-, fo lie*; n ,.;«i-i,.

and without a single hitch. Under favourable conditions, the company, as before stated, will be ready to start crushing by about the Ist of August next, and this done, the directors may fairly claim the credit of the most successful achievement : yet accomplished in the field.
