INANGAHUA COUNTY COUNCIL.

An adjourned special meeting ofthe Council was held on Wednesday evening, the 30th instant, there were present: Messrs Brennan (Chairman), Williams, Byrne, Craig, Ribet, and Irving.

The inward correspondence was dealt with as follows : —

From the Manager of the Globe Company, drawing Council's attention to the state of the road leading to the Company's

mine.

Referred to the Engineer, with power to act.

From the Secretary of the Railway League, requesting the Council to place a sum of money at the disposal of the

League.

Matter referred to the County Solicitor for his opinion.

From George Barman, re gravel pits, &c. Matter referred to the Engineer, with power to act immediately.

From the Manager of theLankey's Creek Co, asking payment of £25, formerly authorised by Council.

The voucher was passed, subject to the Engineer giving his certificate that the wßrk has been performed.

Moved by Cr. Byrne, seconded by Cr. Williams, and carried, " That the Engineer be instructed to box that portion of the creek commencing at Mr Murphy's paddock and terminating at Broadway buildings. Tenders to close on Wednesday, the 13th June, at noon." '

From Thomas M'Kenna, asking exten sion of time for two months .for the com pletion of his contract. Granted.

From Thomas Lynch, asking Council for compensation for land (about 5J acres) taken for road purposes through hia ground, and which would cause him to erect about 120 chain! of extraienciag. Resolved : ' That Mr LiM _4 firmed that it is to the General Government he should make application for any damages ie might sustain through the tahing of his land for road purposes "

'From Alexander Reavy, asking for compensation for having had to remove hisiiut, as it had become unsafe owing to the construction of a new road.

It was decided that the matter could not be entertained.

Proposed by Cr. Byrne, seconded by Cr. Williams, and agreed to. " That the amount due be paid to Mr Dunn."

Cr. Byrne tabled a petition signed by about 60 residents at Boatinin'3 pray rig for the construction of a horse bridge over the Left-hand Branch ou tho short track.

The petition was read and received,

The County Engineer's monthly report was next read and adopted. With reference to the same it was proposed by Cr. Irving, Seconded by Cr. Craig, and carried, ' * That the Engineer be i nstr ucted to prepare plans and specifications for a dray road, commencing at the foot-bridge near Mr Overend's, and terminating at Mr M'Connoughie's farm. Tenderi to close on the 13th June, at noon.

Moved by Cr. Brennan, seconded- by Cr. Bryne, and agreed to : " That the repairs mentioned in the engineer's report, relative to a portion of Lower Broadway, be performed, and that tendersT>e called for the work, closing 13th Juno, at noon

Resolved on the motion of Cr. Irving, seconded by Cr. Ribet: "That Mr Garven be empowered to supply his own horse for the ensuing twelve months, on

the same terms as contracted for during

last year." Cr. Proposed . by Cr. Byrne, seeonded-by Cr. Ribet, and carried : "That a sum not exceeding £50 be spent in making, abroad to the Owen reefs, and that the work be done as early as possible, under the supervision of the County Engineer."

Contracts to be let in half-mile sections, and tenders to close at next meeting of Council." Seconded by Cr. Irving and carried.

Cr. Williams next moved : "That tenders bo called for the maintenance during a period of twelve months of the road commencing at the'MMn"Grey Road, and terminating at the crossing of tho Blackwater opposite] Mr Doig's residence." Seconded by Mr Craig and carried.

It was resolved : " That the sum of £10 be expended in the clearing away stumps and filling in ruts on the line of road from the Fire Brigade Hall to
