MINING NEWS.

[From oub Mining Repobter.] The election excitement having completely passed away, and people's : j enough to return . to tneii^ practical concerns, we may eipect that something will be now done to raise the drooping head of speculation. Within the 'next two or three months an important addition will be made to the crushing power and production of the district The Golden Point Company are at last fairly ready to start on what is generally believed will be a highly prosperous career. The Globe Company are far advanced with their wolks, and, barring unforseen difficulties, within three months, the stillness of that portion of the district will be brofcen by the noise of the stampers. The starting of operations by this company will be an event in the history of the field, for few undertakings have been started under such highly promising .auspices. The Lankey's Creek Compahyi too, are drawing their works to a finish, and a very few weeks should see the machinery set in motion. The Oriental battery is in readiness for crushing, and after the first rain will no doubt become a permanent contributor to our gold yield. Good progress is also being made with ! the works for the erection of the In.kerman machinery, as also that for the Inglewood Company, and six months at the outside should see these batteries in full operation. Added to this, the early resumption of crushing by the Golden Treasure, Golden Fleece Extended,, Energetic, and Rainy Creek Companies, opens up a good future for this portion of the field. The outlook in the , Boatman's district is equally full of promise. The Welcome works for"6p>ning up their low level are now well ad\anced, and by tlie close of the year the company will set out with a new lease of life. . The Fiery Cross are taking out some really excellent stone, and from present indications have a really good time ahead. The Hopeful Company have a large parcel of stone in course of reduction, and the prospects of the company may be said to ,be brighter then they have been for years past The low level tupnel for the Eureka Company is being carried in with all the despatch possible, and each month which' now passes will bring this company more and more prominently into notice. The Just-in-Time Company, after a. good deal of unproductive work, are at length approaching the point when some return may be expected for the patience of the shareholders. The Imperial, Specimen Hill, and Caledonian Extended Companies go to make up a rather formidable list of budding ventures, and together afford a good testimony of the expansion of our mining industry. Some eight or ten years ago it was considered something of a joke to speak of the Inangahua as " the Ballarat of New Zealand," but it cannot be doubted that we are now getting well on the way to make the comparison more real than could have been dreamt of ten years ago.
