4 : - (pkom oue own correspondent. ) Nelson, 22 Mr. Shephard, M.H.&, who has been holding meetings in various parts of his constituency, has: been compelled to desist owing to his state of health. Westpobt, 22. The Union steamer Omapere was proceeding to sea in tow of the Mahinapua, at 10 o'clock last night, when the former took the ground on the bar. The latter also bumped hard, and the tow-rope had to be cut. The Otnapere stuck hard and fast, and was gradually driven into -the surf to the north of the channel. The coal has been jettisoned, arid an attempt will be made to get her off at flood tide to-day. The Mahinapua re-crossed the bar, and returned to .port. She will assist the Omapere to-day. Chiustohurch, 21. The Salvation Army meeting tonight was crbwded, but it passed off quietly, probably owing to the fact that several policemen' were present. The Blue hibn'on mission clubbed to-night. In all 800 persons have taken the pledge since its commencement.
