JOSEPH McGHIE. On Tuesday of last week (26th January) there passed away at the Wellington Hospital Hospital, one of our best-known residents m the person of Joseph McGhie. Deceased, who was 56 years of age at the time of his death, was lorn at Islington (London) on August 1(J, 185il, iiiid landed at Dunedin#with his parents, in 1874, from the ship "Hindostan" in which they had voyaged from England. He was a I oner-maker by trade and lor four years held the position of head boilermaker at the Petone Railway Workshops. On February 19,1881, he married Sarah ]imma Barnes (also an Islingtonioii) at Wellington. He took up his residence in the Uppi r Hutt district some 29 yeiir« ago. JUeceased's last illness was of six month's duration, necessitating his entering the Wellington Hospital last December to undergo an operation necessitated by an internal complication and remained there under treatment for a fortnight. Here-ehtered the institution on January 7 and remained until his death which was caured by lvasmhorrhage of the bowels. The interment on January 28, took place at Karori, by expressed wish of deceased—his lather, the late JamesMcGhie, being buried. Deceased's family comprises six sons and one daughter (all living) 1 who with his widow and eleven grandchildren mourn his loss.
