LOCAL BRANCH FORMED The Record Hall, lodge room waß packed 011 Monday night to hear what the representatives of the Wellington Centre of the Royal Life-saving Society had to Bay on the subject of rescuing people irom drowning and the lor'mation of a local branqH of the Society, E. Balcomb-Brown wab voted to the chair and introduced the visitors. A moat interesting address was delivered by J. H. Koler, the Society's lecturer, and his remarks were supplemented by L. W. Robfertfion, assistant, and W. J. Wray, instructor. Illustrations of the different. methods of restoring animation were given, and an indication of how ,to proceed to establish an effective local branch of the Society. it was resolved to form a district branch for the upper end of the Ilutt Valley, and J. Finiay was appointed interim secretary. Close on thirty names, including a number of ladies', were handed in for membership. Otheis have since teen received. A hearty vote of thanks was tendered the visitors for their assistance and the meeting concluded with the usual compliment to the chairman. The Instructor will be in attendance at the Record Hall on M mc ay next to give a'demonbtrbtion and drill members in the various land exercises. Lady members' (and any other ladies who can conveniently attend) are to meet in the lodge-room it 7.30. Men iolk (members and others) will meet at 8.15 in the refectory. A big muster is desired at both. On Tuesday there was a good' muster of men and women folk in the Record Hall refectory when a number of rescue exercises were practiced as set out in the text-book, in anticipation of Monday's instruction classes. It was resolved to conduct the business of the branch at the weekly class meetings and to s defer the election of officers until later ih the year. In the meantime, J, Finiay (interim secretary of the branch) is to be the executive officer. It was resolved to hold waterside gatherings as follows'till further notice Thursdays-H) p.m. Pino Av. Sundays—2 p.m. .alternately at Maori-bank and Craig'st Maori-bank tomorrow, and Craig's tomorrow week.
