WOMEN’S INSTITUTE
FEDERATION MEETING A 10 DAYS TOUR IN APRIL The itinerary of a 10-day bus tour for women’s institute members at the end of .next April was approved' by the Thames-Hauraki Plains District Federation executive at its meeting recently. The route, via Whakatane, Gisborne, Napier, Palmerston North and Taupo will take in many places of interest.
Mrs N. L. Lithgow presided over Mesdames F. Symes, C. Marceau, M. W. Crawford, A. M. Carter, F. M. Ellery, M. McCom'be, E. Clark,' L. E. Scott, V. M. Goldsworthy, T. V. Neil and A. M. Isdale. Mrs Carter was welcomed' back after her illness and presented with flowers. A resolution supporting Edwards Motors -Ltd.’s application for a direct bus service between Thames and Wellington was carried unanimously, and Mrs Isdale was appointed to act as spokesman in that connection at the sitting of No. 1 Transport Licensing Authority when the application was heard.
Dressmaking classes, to commence on February 5 next, have been arranged by the co-ordinating committee of the ’Women’s Division of Federated Farmers and the women’s institute with Mrs Ellery as secretary. Miss Flowers of Auckland will conduct the classes in 13 "centres over an area extending from Waihi to Waitakaruru and north to Thames Coast. At lunch time Mrs Symes, on behalf of the executive members, presented Mrs Lithgow with a charming bouquet and voiced good wishes for the festive season. Mrs Lithgow replied and- in presenting gifts thanked members for their loyal support throughout the year. 'Ohjristmas parcels were exchanged musically and later afternoon tea closed a very busy and happy meeting. '
