GARDEN PARTY

CHURCH BUILDING FUND MARAMARUA PRESBYTERIANS The first garden party in aid of the Maramarua Presbyterian church building fund took place recently at the home of Mr and Mrs R. Harrison, the weather being perfect and the attendance good. Several pioneers of the church movement were present and enjoyed chatting with old friends, in' ideal surroundings. Seats placed in the shade of the fine old trees were popular with those who wanted to relax and numerous competitions kept energetic persons busy.

The Rev. G. Yule welcomed Visitors at 12.30 p.in., thanked the host and hostess for making their garden available and'invited all those present to visit the stalls where needlework, cooking and produce were available. The Girls’ Life Brigade sponsored a most attractive cake and sweets stall, and sold buttonholes made by them, al! doing brisk business for the good cause.

Strawberries and ice cream served by Mr Harrison, proved most popular. Shooting their presents from a tree with a spring gun; was a favourite with the children, who also enjoyed the mystery of the fish pond. Stepping the chain, clock golf and darts attracted competitors, being won by Mrs F. Pope, Mrs H. Heaven and Mr George Findlay respectively. Two turkeys and a Christmas cake were auctioned during the afternoon. The last car sped away at a late hour, all agreeing that it had been a very happy occasion and an amount in the vicinity of £6O was added to the building fund.
