DISTRICT YOUNG FARMERS

Netherton-Kerepehi: There have been very good attendances indeed at the last two monthly meetings of the Netherton-Kerepehi Young Farmers’ Club. Those members, who had been membersr'of the touring party to South Otago, agreed to leave the surplus tour funds in a hospitality fund for future tours. The names of N. Finlay and K. Firth were sent forward as candidates for the New Zealand Dairy Board’s scholarships which, included a trip to the United States of America. Mr C. H.-Sorenson showed a programme of interesting and informative films, including some of particular interest to New Zealand farmers. One, “Tribute to Achievement,” portrayed the meat industry? Another dealt with the feeding levels in dairy cattle and a third was an American colour film dealing with soil deficiencies. Finally Mr Sorenson gave a lantern lecture on tjie digestion of ruminants. A very hearty vote of thanks was passed to Mr Sorenson. At the second meeting of the club Mr A. Hodgson, M.R.C.V.S., veterinary surgeon from Ngatea, gave an address on breeding and fertility and his informative talk dealt at length with the reproductive anatomy of the cow and the effect of various condiditions and diseases on fertility. V * * * Patetonga-Kaihere: At the meetings held the district chairman, (Mr El. Quinn, gave a talk on the programme Mich had been laid down by the district committee. Films were exhibited by Mr Sorenson. Two new members were elected. The names of 10 members were sent forward as blood donors. * * * * Ngatea: There have been fair attendances at the monthly meetings held at which arrangements were made for a trip to the Dominion Breweries and the glass works at Penrose. Mr R. A. Harris, of Ngatea, gave a very interesting lecture»on farm finance, taxation and mortgages. Following a discussion it was decided that the Ngatea club should invite members of the Nelson district to a tour of the Hauraki Plains. Mr W. T. Leonard gave a talk upon his recent trip to Australia. Mr C. H. Sorenson of Messrs W. and R. Fletcher Ltd., exhibited films. The last meeting of the club was devoted to the making arrangements for a ball to be held in December and it was decided to invite Mr Hodgson, of Ngatea, veterinary surgeon, to give an address at the next meeting. The contest for the Y.F.C. leadership was a subject for much discussion and five members entered their names for selection. Two members having left the district, it was decided to make gifts to each of them in recognition of the services they had rendered the club. ***** Turua: A discussion as to what should be done with the surplus tour money resulted in the decision being made that the money be returned to those club members who had taken part in the South Otago tour. A most interesting lecture, including a display of films, was given by Mr Sorenson, of W. & R. Fletcher Ltd. He dealt with nutrition and proper feeding of stock and the benefits arising'from proper feeding. Four new, members were welcomed at the October meeting. The question of holding debates was fully discussed and the secretary was authorised to arrange for an exhibition of films at the next meeting of the club. * * * * Hikutaia: There have been good attendances, at the last two meetings of the club. One was the forty-ninth meeting and a questionaire was filled in and members were appointed for duties at the district ball and the field day. Arrangements were made for a visit to the Waitoa factory and for the holding of the parade on calf club day.
