FLOOD DAMAGE
PURIRI SETTLERS SUFFER
SCHEME TO CLEAR WILLOWS
“When will the work of cleaning willow on the Puriri scheme be commenced?” asked Mr J. W. F. Mcßeth, at the November meeting of the Hauraki Catchment Board. Settlers had suffered considerably during the recent flobds, said Mr McBeth, who instanced that one settler’s cheque would be decreased by £5O for the month as a result of the damage done by flooding. Some farmers at Puriri had had their properties converted into a ponding area. That was not right and it was questionable whether actions for damages could not be sustained. The engineer, Mr Davies, recommended that a scheme for clearing of willows at Puriri be approved and the meeting duly adopted his recommendation.
