WOMEN’S INSTITUTE
HOSPITAL COMFORTS & CHEER
A MERCURY BAY MEETING
The November meeting of the Mercury Bay Women’s Institute was well attended. Mrs Hughes, the president, was in the chair. Mrs Russell read the month’s motto “It matters not how long we live, but how!” Members were reminded about the Anbury cup competition and were asked to bring entries so that the best could be chosen. It was decided to send £1 towards comforts for Thames hospital, 10/to the federation visiting fund and 10/- for Christmas cheer for the old men’s home at Tararu.
It was decided that light refreshment would be provided for morning tea at the group meeting as most people felt the need of a cup of tea after the journey over the hill. The meeting resolved that the institute should be responsible for a stall at the hospital garden party and to hold a dance in January to raise funds for hospital comforts. It also decided to send a Christmas hamper to the value of 30/- to the hospital staff, Mrs R. A. Smith gave a most interesting account of the council meeting and the Iroll call, “Items of local historic interest,” was well answered. A party supper is to be a feature of the December meeting. Competitions resulted:—
Vase, Mrs Bronlund, 1; Mrs Bruce, 2. Head, Mrs Clark, 1; Mrs Bronlund, 2. Bloom, Mrs H. Simpson, 1; Mrs Bronlund, 2.
The meeting closed with the New Zealand national song.
