LARGE WETHER ENTRY

READY SALE AT FIRM RATES

Large entries of all classes of wethers, good entries of cattle and medium entries of beef were yarded at Messrs Dalgety and Coy. Ltd‘s Kopu sale last week. There was a large bench of buyers present from the Waikato, Tuakau and surrounding districts and the whole yarding met a very ready sale at firm late rates. Sheep: A very large entry of all classes of wethers, totalling over 2500, was penned and sold under very strong competition at further improved rates. They quote: Top shorn wether hoggets, £2/15/3 to £2/17/4; medium, £2/11/-; medium Southdown hoggets, £2/9/-; small sorts, £2/3/-; forward condition, two and four-tooth wethers, £2/12/7 to £2/14/-; aged ewes, lambs at foot (all counted), £l/16/3 to £l/17/-. All quotations are for shorn sheep.

Dairy cattle: Values were easier to commence with but firmed as the sale progressed and were full on late rates. Best cows and heifers made £l9 to £23; average, £l5 to £l7; mediaum, £l3 to £l4/10/-. Beef cattle: A medium entry met a very strong enquiry and values tended to harden. They quote good cows, £lO to £lBlO/-; medium, £l4 to £l5/10/-; lighter, £l2 to £l3/10/-; light, £lO to £ll/10/-; paddock cows were in strong demand and sold freely to £l2.

Pigs: A small entry of pigs sold freely and the demand for store pigs was very strong. Medium porkers, £5 to £5/15/-; light, £4/10/- to £4/15/-; medium slips, £3/10/- to £3/15/-; good weaners, £3/3/-; others, £2/10/- to £2/17/-.
