PARENT-TEACHER

PAEROA WITHDRAWS AUCKLAND FEDERATION TO JOIN WITH HAMILTON The .September monthly meeting of the Paeroa Parent-Teacher Association was held in the primary school, Mr L. Luxton presiding. There were present Mesdames H. Saunders, B. Roberts, L. Zeigler, M. Graham, J. Milroy,, G. Mlanktelow, B. Gwilliam, L .Luxton and C. Gleadow, Misses G. Gwilliam and Gernhoefer, Messrs G. H. Gubbins, M. Graham, T. I. Jenkins, A. Johansen, L. Marshall and V. Anderson.

After the usual business had been transacted, a discussion arose as to whether the Paeroa Parent-Teacher Association should continue membership with the Auckland federation, or join the South Auckland federation, with headquarters at Hamilton, in view of the fact that the South Auckland federation headquarters were nearer, and also considering the agitation on foot to have a South Auckland education board.

Mr Jenkins outlined this history of the movement to break away from the Auckland Education Board, in view of which Mr Marshall moved and Mr Anderson seconded that the Paeroa Parent-Teacher Association resign from the Auckland Federation of Parent-Teacher Associations. The secretary was instructed to wi’ite to the federation as above, forwarding a cheque for last year’s subscription. Mr Jenkins suggested that an invitation be sent to Mr Brant, president of the South Auckland federation, to attned a meeting and address

the members, the date to be left to Mr Brant. The secretary was instructed accordingly, also to invite parents and tecahers of surrounding districts, a hall to be engaged and supper provided.

The next matter to be decided was whether the social evenings should be continued. In view of the very enjoyable time spent at the last whist evening, it was decided to make the next committee meeting night another whist drive, to be preceded by a. short committee meeting, commencing at 7 p.m. sharp, whist to commence at 8 p.m.

Mrs Saunders asked the committee to accept her resignation, but was eventually persuaded to reconsider and remain on the committee.

Mr Gubbins reported that a medical room had been established in the primary. school. Certain furnishings were required and it was left in the hands of certain members of the committee to attend to the matter.

An alteration in time for the commencement of the meeting was suggested, and was to be further considered after the October meeting. Mis Gleadow asked the committee to accept her resignation as secretary as she had given the. position a fair trial and had found it impossible to carry on. Her resignation was accepted with regret but as no offer to fill the position was forthcoming at the moment, she agreed to carry on until the October meeting.
