DOMAIN PROBLEM

RAISING CYCLE TRACK MAJOR WORK INVOLVED PAEROA COUNCIL DECISION The council’s proposal to raise a portion of the running track on the Paeroa domain had been discussed at a meeting oif the Paeroa Amateur Athletic and Cycling Chib, wrote the club’s secretary to the October meeting of the Paeroa Borough 'Council. The club suggested that th)e work should be carried out during the autumn when the ground would consolidate much more quickly than if the work was carried out at the present time. Two visits had been made by the domain committee to the domain since last meeting, said the mayor, Mr Edwin Edwards, who explained that the job was bigger than at first anticipated. It meant that 500 yards of filling was required. It would result in raising the ground 18 inches for a length of '5O yards and 20 1 yards wide. Whilst the council was desirous of assisting the club it was 1 felt that it would not be possible to carry out such a major work to the domain which was in constant use by several sports bodies.

The deputy mayor, Cr J. H. Walmsley, suggested it might be possible to carry out the work by small instalments so as to interfere to a minimum degree with the continuous use of the domain.

Cr C. O’Brien made the suggestion that the course could be altered to an oval course and that might overcome the difficulty. the council any particular objection to the course chosen by the club. The mayor in reply stated that the club selected its own course. He suggested that the matter be referred back to the domain committee to confer with the athletic club, which proposal the council resolved to adopt.
