LARGE CREDIT BALANCE MEETING OF THE UNION NO VaR MEMORIAL GRANT The final meeting of the season of the management committee of the Hauraki Plains Rugby Union was held at Ngatea recently when the following were in attendance. Mr H. Ken-< nedy (president), Messrs C. K. Fox, C. N. Batchelor (Turua); T. Jordan, J. Millington (Kerepehi); R. Williams, J. Carr (Ngatea); T. Perry (Miranda) ; M. Anderson, W. Costello (Patetonga); T. Roberts, L. Blackler (Waitakaruru); L. Sherlock (treasuser), R. A. Harris (secretary), J. Mitchell (referee). It was resolved that in future the retiring president of the union be, without further resolution, vice-presi-dent for the one year following his vacation of the office of president. That resolution followed upon a lengthy discussion on the position which might arise where the president was a delegate from, a club. It was pointed out that if a club, one of whose members was chairman of the union nominated two permanent delegates for the year, not including the chairman, a position could arise automatically where the retiring chairman was excluded from membership on the union. The resolution followed so that the past chairman would not be lost to the union for the ensuing years. Thames Valley Matches A topic for discussion was the basis of the allocation of expenses of. assembling players for Thames Valley matches, the matter being brought up by the ehairman. It was decided to leave the matter till the commencement of next season.
The committee corisdiered the appliThe committee considered the applications from Miranda, Waitakaruru war memorial schemes. Mr Batchelor reported that Turua club had instructed him to oppose any such proposal, and recommenced that any assistance should be given to clubs in the nature of increased insurance allowances to to injured players, and free affiliation next year. Mr Batchelor moved that no grants to war memorials be made. In seconding the motion M!r Blackler said Waitakaruru club had decided along the lines suggested by Turua club. Any financial assistance should first be made to clubs. The motion was put and carried. The treasurer advised that the union’s total funds would be in the vicinity of £9OO after payment of all accounts to date. The expenses of the Peace cup matches would approximate 50' per cent of the takings for the season. It was resolved that the president, secretary and treasurer be authorised to make a transfer to a savings bank. “Mr Kennedy thanked members for their co-operation during the year, and extended to them the compliments of the season. He hoped that next year, would prove just as successful a season.
Mr C. K. Fox said that much credit was due to Mr Kennedy—his job was not an easy one—he had discharged his duties with tact and done much organisation work, which was greatly appreciated. Carried by acclamation.
