HARMFUL TO HEALTH

USE OF. PRESERVATIVES

PATETONGA REMIT CARRIED

“Tfiait. the ■' law regarding " preservatives in meat be' tightened as it is felt that the freezing facilities were now adequate and the use of preservatives was detrimental to health,*” was the text of a remit moved by the Patet tonga institute at the biannual meeting, of the Thames-Hauraiki Plains District Federation of Women’s Institutes held on Tuesday last in Thames. In moving the remit Mrs Appleby stated that it was not fully (understood the extent to which preservatives were used in meat and, as a result, many people were today, without knowing it, eating preservatives which,' in their particular cases, were injurious to their health. There were now plenty of facilities available for keeping meat fresh and there was little need for the use of preservatives.

Dr Logan urged support for the remit which was carried unanimously.
