WON BY COROMANDEL
MANUKAU OLD BOYS BEATEN
Under perfect weather conditions on Saturday last the Manukau Old Boys played the Coromandel Rugby team for the Caraman cup. '
The match was fast and open and played in a very friendly spirit, Coromandel running out the winners by 16 points to nil. Scores for Coromandel were by K. Notman, N. Davis, R. Fuller and E. Gamble, one try each, two of which were converted by D. Beech. K. Notman’s was a splendid try right at the opening of the game. As soon as the whistle blew he was off and scored. The try scored by Eric Gamble makes him 50 points for the season. R. Fuller was well to the fore as usual. *
The game was refereed by one of the Manukau visitors.
CURTAIN-RAISER SCHOOL FOOTBALL In a curtain raiser on Saturday last the Coromandel school team played a seven-a-side match with the Manaia school team, the result being a win for Coromandel by 28 points to 6. Welcome Dance In the evening the Coromandel Football Club held a welcome dance for the Manukau visitors. There was a good attendance and a pleasant evening was spent dancing to the music supplied by Mrs D. Stewart and Mr W. Hart. Mr D. Beech was Mi.C.
During the evening the manager of the visiting team presented the Cara? man cup to the Coromandel club and congratulated it on its Win. The Manukau captain also spoke.
Replies were made iby the Coromandel captain, Mr N. Davis, and the secretary, Mr R. Pepper. An enjoyable supper was served and dancing continued till midnight. The secretary of the Coromandel club extended the club’s thanks to the basketball girls, who had so ably looked after the supper arrangements and for their help in that direction.
