COROMANDEL TALENT

t BADGES PRESENTED

FULL PROGRAMME ENJOYED

A very happy evening was spent on Thursday, October 5, when the Coromandel Girl Guides held a special evening which took the form of a concert in the Methodist hall. .

The items were all very good and much promising talent was portrayed. A trading table did good business and, as there was a good attendance of parents present, quite a good sum was realised by way of sales ands a collection taken up later in the evening in aid of Guide funds.

Mrs A. McNeil, on behalf of the committee thanked everyone for coming along and invited friends to join the Guide association which, by the payment of a small subscription of 2/6 per year, was an added help both by finance and also moral support. An enjoyable supper was served by the committee, assisted by the Guides. The following items were given by the Guides:—

Opening poem, Barbara Ward; nigger minstrels, Anne James and Zelda McNeil; solo, Janet Eide; shadow play, “Dental Horrors,” by Red Kowhai patrol; poem, Valda Dobbs; solo, Gay Hansen; drill exercises, by the company; poem, Terry Mathias; solo, Palma McNeil; play, “The Bloaters,” by Kingfisher patrol; solo, Alison Scott; poem, “The Kingfisher, Alison James; vocal duet, Janet Eide arid Valda Dobbs; piano solo, Alison Scott; solo, Leonie Adams; poem, Zelda MlcNeil; vocal trio, Shirleen Strongman, Alison Scott and Janet Eide; yodelling solo, Beverley Dobbs; vocal quartette, Alison Scott, Leone Aftams, Gay Hansen and Janet Eide; accompaniste, Mrs E. M. Lucas. A presentation of second class badges was made to Catherine Dobbs, Anne James and Valda Dobbs. In making the presentation of the badges the captain, Mrs Carey, referred to the qualifications necessary to be earned before receiving them and she spoke of the good work done by the three girls who were receiving their badges. \ • In conclusion the company formed its horsesh.oe and sang, “There is a movement,” “Round the Blazing Camp Fire” and “Bird of My Native Land.” “Taps” brought the evening to a close.

It was announced that Saturday, October 7, was the Guides work day, when anyone requiring work to be done could call on a -Guide to do it, the money so earned to be in aid of Guide funds.
