RIVER SURVEY
TO MOUTH OF PIAKO
CATCHMENT BOARD CONTROL
The Soil -Conservation and Rwers Control Council has asked the Hauraki Catchment Board to agree to extending the survey on the Piako river to its mouth, on the assumption that it would put the river into the condition as previously designed and then to ask the board' to take over the control of the river.
The request was placed before the September meeting of the catchment board held recently in Te Aroha when after discussion the board resolved that it was willing to extend the pre sent survey on the river to its mouth and was willing to discuss with the council the terms and conditions upon which it would assume control of the river at a future date when complete data was available.
of the gift which he had just received. Plains Proud of Peace Cup
Referring to the Peace cup, 'Mj' Dent said it was a red letter night as regards Rugby in the district, and the Hauraki Plains were proud to be the holders of the Peace cup. All, he said, were proud of the captain of the team, Selly Fisher, who was what be described as a “veteran skipper.” The Peace cup had been presented in 1920 he said, for competition among suibunions in the South Auckland district, and had been keenly competed for ever since. Mr Dent also paid tribute to Mr Ces. Wallace, of Cambridge, who was present at the function, and who had refereed all the Peace cup games on the Plains this season, and to the union’s selector, Mr Keith Fox. Both these sportsmen were, he said, held in very high esteem on the Plains. Selly Fisher, the captain, said Mr Dent, had proved himself a great “general,” and if they could they would make him a “field marshal.” After receiving the cup, Mr Fisher suitably offered thanks on behalf of his team.
Mr Kennedy then extended thanks to the referees’ association and congratulated Mr Ashford of Waitakaruru on his success with the third grade team. He also thanked the Ngatea Football Club, especially mentioning Mrs T. Sydenham for the capable manner in which the ball had been organised. A vote of thanks was also accorded Mr Theo Evans for all he had done for football, to the secretary of the union, Mr R. A. Harris, and all who had helped to make the season such a successful one.
