SHOW IN PAEROA
(TO THE EDITOR)
Sir, I read with interest the letter of Cr O’Brien, a candidate for next month’s mayoralty election, in your issue of Friday, October 6, in which he emphatically denies making* the remarks he was reported to have made regarding the unimportance of the annual show staged by the Hauraki A. and P. Association in Paeroa. On making enquiries from several
councillors who were present at the council meeting at which Cr O’Brien . was reported to have made the remarks in question, I have been assured that the Gazette report of Cr O’Brien’s amazing statements was correct. Now, Sir, I would like to state, as one who has been a resident of the district for 30-odd years, that this borough and the rich rural district which help, in no small measure, to keep the town prosperous, have been built (by men of sound knowledge and hard common sense. One wonders what would happen to all that has been achieved if pen, who Snake such ill-informed statements as did Cr O’Brien about such a much looked forward to and cleverly organised fixture as'the annual A. and P. Show, attain office in important administrative positions in local body affairs. J. E. SILCOCK, Waitoki.
