tourney TEAMS AT MERCURY BAY TROPHY WON BY WHITIANGA B Primary school seven-a-side Rugby teams from Mercury Bay Rugby Union area and Whangamata, competed at Whitianga on Saturday in a knock-out competition for the Te Hekenga trophy, which was won by Whitianga B. The standard of play was good and spectators were generous with their support. 'Controlling the teams were the school teachers, Messrs Wright (Whangamata), J. Crumbb (Hikuai), L. Pattie (Tairua), Clark (Coroglen), R. Otter (Kaimarama) and A. Wotherspoon (Whitianga). Referees were Messrs R. Otter, F. Chaney, L. Pattie and G. Simpson. Following the games, the teams were the guests of the Rugby union, when Miesdames Winiata and Lee served afternoon tea. While addressing the boys, Mr T. Winiata, the donor of the trophy, explained that Te Hekenga meant “migration,” and in three season the trophy had migrated to three different teams.
