THAMES CLUB WIN . THE REST DEFEATED WIN© UP OF SEASON Hikutaia was the venue foy the match between the combined Fire Brigade and Red Shield table tennis clubs of Thames and the rest of the: Thames Valley, which was held on Saturday night last. < ■ The teams were:— ( Thames clubs: Ladies, B. Doddreli, H. Colquhoun, N. Williams, L. Morrison, A. Verran, J. Hawkins, R. McRae and O. Osmond, Men, B. C. Allpress, R. Doddreli, L. Gooder, fit. Johnston, N. Reddish, K. Gooder and T. Smith. , The Rest: 'Ladies, G. Robbins, D. Robbins, Mrs R. Wilson, B. Paetai, N. Ryde, Ruina Rare, Ruth Rare/and N. Vince. Men, R. Harris', R. Robin- 1 son, W. Baxter, R. Nelson, R. Mor-/' rison, G. Morrison, T. Coribett and D. Morrison. The Thames dubs proved decidedly •superior in the men’s team#, winning by 47 sets to 17 sets, C. Allpress winning all his eight sets.: In the ladies'* matches the rest were successful by 43 sets to 21, Miss D. Robbins winning six sets in the A section and the Misses Ruina and Ruth Rare winning seven out of eight sets in the- B ..©action. ' ’ 1 '■ The table tennis season is now drawing to a close and Saturday bight’s match marked the end Of interclub play for the 1950 season. The selectors for both teams hadcexpOnenced some difficulty with- theMSelection of their teams owing to tbetf'lateness ill the With the result that play was not bf as high Standard as might have been expected. There were some Very close seta, however, and all the players thoroughly enjoyed, their games. ' '; During supper Mr J, J. Craig, president of , the Thames Valley Tabte Tennis Association, thanked the Hikutaia club for the use of its facilities and expressed ‘the association’s gratitude to the lady supporters, who had served’ such a sumptuous supper to all.

TROPHIES PRESENTED FIRE BRIGADE WINS . The Thames Fire Brigade' Table Tennis -Cluib ran out the winners iii' •both the A and B grades iiL the inters club competitions held during the 1950 season under the auspices of a the ■ Thames Valley Table Tennis Association. Two handsome trophies have been donated to the association for yearly presentation to the winners of the competition. For the A grade a cup has been .presented by Mr J. J. Craig:, of Paeroa, to be -known -as the t John Craig cup and’ for the B grade a cup has been presented by Mr E. Tliomp- ' son, of Te Aroha, to be known as the Eddie Thompson cup. These trophies were presented to the Fire Brigade club at Hikutaia on Saturday night last by Mrs J. J. Craig after Mr Craig had congratulated 'them upon their double win Mir J. W. Doddrell replied oil behalf of the Fire Brigade club. . .
