MISS DONALDSON HONOURED A PARTY AT WATTAKARURU Having in mind'the wonderful help given to the Waitakaruru memorial fund campaign by the farmers’ queen Mfiss Pat Donaldson, the members of her committee and their immediate families, to the number of, over SO, organised a party in her honour on a recent Friday evening. Mr and Mrs G. Gray of Mangatarata threw open their lovely home for the occasion and every room 1 had been madp fragrant with masses of the most beautiful spring flbwers, the drawing 1 room in particular being arranged with bowls and vases of daffodils, lachenalias, hyacinths and irises. With quite a lot of talent to draw on there was not one dragging moment, and music from an old /time album of songs was delightfully played by Mirs Laurie Hill as an accompaniment to community singing of many of the well loved old songs. Mrs Mpunsey sang the solo “I’ll take yop home again, Kathleen” for the Irish folks present and then rendered the .Scotch song: “Op the banks of Allan Water” to make, things even. Mrs Clark, of Turua, and her son, Tiinny, sang as duets a number of modern songs to Mrs Clark’s pianoforte accompaniment, and Mrs Charles Ooxhead delighted everyone with her characteristic skilful interpretation when she rendered a pianoforte solo. ) Mr Alan Whitehead, of Turua, also sang, several rollicking humorous songs io his own banjo accompaniment. A delicious supper of which the highlights were poultry and hot savouries, was served' by Miss Betty Gray and her sister, Mrs Baigent, assisted by Mlns Ashford. After supper Mr Baigent, who is senior advisor of the Young Farmers’ Club, which originally sponsored the farmers’ queen, called Pat forward and spoke very highly of her cheerful untiring work for the carnival, and he asked her on behalf of her committee to accept a handsome week-end travelling bag as a token of esteem. Her father, on Pat’s behalf, thanked everyone present for their kindness to his daughter, not only on that evening but throughout the campaign.
