THE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
The monthly meeting of the Coromandel Chamber of Commerce was held in the school on Thursday, July 20, when Mr A. S. Tonkin presided and Mr D. Longley occupied the secretary’s chair m the place of Mr Ball, who was on holiday.
It was resolved that the chamber arrange for a public notice board to he placed in a central’ place in the township for the use of organisations in notifying the public about various and functions. A definite need for something of the kind had been felt and the chamber was looking after the interests of those concerned in a very concrete manner.
Votes of thanks were passed to Mr Rowse for the use of his shop wall for the board, and Mr Hawley for his assistance in the making of it. Mr Rowse reported that he and Mr Ball had been at the hand Wot in Thames as promised and had procured
the addresses of the successful ballottees and had sent them the prepared notices setting out the advantages of Coromandel as their shopping centre afid avenue of transport for their produce. He intimated that the rehabilitation officers were also present and expressed their pleasure at seeing representatives of the chamber there to look after the interests of the successful ballotees and the town in general. Officers were also present from Mercury Bay Co-operative Dairy Co. Ltd., and N.Z. Co-operative Dairy Co. Ltd., both of which were interested in the outpu of cream from the Whangapoua development block.
