CLAIM BY PATIENT
BOARD’S REPUDIATION.
NOT AN URGENT CASE
THAMES HOSPITAL DECISION
A claim by a Waihi woman for £l6/16/-, being the amount paid by her for treatment at a private hospital was made to the July meeting of the Thames Hospital Board. The claimant stated that she had on March 23 last been given an admission note to the Thames hospital. She saw the admitting sister, who it was alleged, told her she would have to go to Waihi hospital and be put on the waiting list. ’ • The claimant, continuing, stated that she became in such pain that she could not endure it any longer and returned to Thames. The Thames doctor got her into a private hospital where an operation was performed at a cost of £l6/16/- covering hospital treatment and theatre fees. She therefore claimed that amount from the boajrd. -
The secretary of the board, Mr A. L. Neighbour informed members that there were no records of any application for admissioij. He had communicated with Dr' Tuck of ''Waihi, who stated that he would not consider
the case an urgent one. Whilst the patient might consider her case he did not consider the case an urgent one.
Th£ secretary recommended l to the board not to accept liability fpr the claim. The patient did not see the medical superintendent at Thames though no doubt the patient had been to the hospital- and had been told she would have to go on the waiting list as she was not considered an urgent case.
The board accepted the secretdry’s recommendation.
