LEASE OF RESERVE
WEST WATER SUPPLY AREA
DECISION OF PLAINS COUNCIL
“I would like to know if I could use a small piece, about three acres, of your west water supply reserve,” stated Mr W. J. Steen of Maramarua, to the July meeting of the Hauraki Plains County Council. Mr explained that the area in question was a small piece of land between the main creek and a little swapm.
“I want it for cropping. I only keep one cow so I have plenty of feed on my own place. This last 12 months there has been quite a lot of cattle on the place—one man near me had his whole herd of 60 dairy cows on the place for several weeks and then nearly every lot of boner eows to pass through the district are turned into the area for several hours. I think there is no harm in me cropping this little piece of land as there is quite a lot of young blackberry coming up. The blackberry has never been grubbed since I did it five?years ago,” wrote Mr Steen.
The opinion was expressed that there would be no harm in leasing the property to Mr Steen and the matter was left in the hands of the chairman, Mr C. W. Parfitt, and the county engineeiyMr E. Hazeldine Barber, to finalise.
