MARRIED MEN WIN
RUGBY AT MARAiMARUA I SINGLE MEN WELL BEATEN A very popular annual football match, married v. single men, took place recently at Maramarua. A large gallery was present to cheer on the “old boys,” while the “colts” also had their share of supporters. The latter were unfortunate, in being able to field only 14 men. A big loss to their forwards was George Maxwell, who had to stand down owing to injuries. The match was bright and interesting and the crowd went home quite pleased with their day’s sport. For the married men, Ben Walters scored the first two tries, one bfing converted by G. Cunningham and the other by I. Heaven. A penalty kick by G.. Cunningham, brought the halftime score to 18 to nil, another try having been scored and converted by I. Heaven. In the second half J. Ryder crossed the line for the single men, but the try was unconverted. D. Sheef’s drop kick at goal was successful, bringing their score up to six. J, Cunningham scored again for the married men, but this was also unconverted, the filial score being 21 —6 in “old boys’ ” favour. Mr T. Ker capably carried out the duties of referee. The teams were:— Married men: G. Price, W. Carmichael, F. Steed, J. Cunningham, M. Jolley, I. Heaven, G. Cunningham, H. Brass, P. Hughes, J. Taituma, B. Walters, G. Radford, F. Dudding, W.
