WAGES INCREASED
COUNTY COUNCIL EMPLOYEES
OHINEMURI MAKES DECISION
The remuneration of all those employed on wages and salaries by the Ohinemuri County Council has been increased by five per cent in accordance with a resolution carried by the July meeting of the council. The county clerk, Mr A. A. Jenkinson, pointed out that the recent award of the Arbitration Court was that the increase of five per cent applied only to those who were on the minimum award wage and there was no obligation to increase the wages of those receiving wages in excess of those minimum rates. The Arbitration Court had made that point quite clear. The council’s decision in effect was to make the increase granted by the court apply to all council employees irrespective of the amount of their wages but limiting the increase to a maximum of 7/- per week.
