MEETING OF THE UNION
.BARRY TATTON BENEFIT. RULES TO BE REVISED The management committee of the Hauraki Plains Rugby Union met at Ngatea on Monday night the president, Mr H. Kennedy (Patetonga), presiding. Delegates present were Messrs J. Carr and R. Williams (Ngatea), T. Perry and C. Maxwell (Miranda), M. Anderson and W. Costello (Patetonga), T. Jordan and J. Millington (Kerepehi), C. K. Fox and C. N. Batchelor (Turua),' T. Roberts and L. Blackler (Waitakaruru), the treasurer, Mr L. Sherlock, and the secretary, Mr R. A. Harris. Mr S. Fisher was also present by invitation.
It was decided- that the matter of a return match with Franklin be deferred.
The question of a' benefit match for Barry Tatton was discussed and it was decided that a game be arranged during August, married men versus single men. The match will be played at Ngatea and the selection of the team was left to Messrs Fox and Fisher.
'Mr T. Perry was- \ manager of the representative team to play Waihi on Saturday. It was decided that no club football be played on Saturday, July 22 or on Saturday, July 29, the latter date being the British Isles versus New Zealand fourth test match. 1
The secretary was instructed to write to Mr and Mrs’A. Tatton expressing sympathy with them and the hope that their son Barry, who was injured in a Thames Valley match at Taumarunui, would soon recover his Jhealth.
Permission to .play outsftie games was granted Waitakaruru, Ngatea and Kerepehi, the first this coming week-end and' the latter two clubs during the week-end of July 29.
. It was decided that consideration be given at the next meeting to the setting up of a subcommittee to overhaul the rules and consider the question of incorporation.
DENT CUP FINAL
WAITAKARURU WINS
The Kerepehi Football Club’s senior team visited Waitakarurji last week to play Waitakaruru in the final of the Dent cup competition. A /good hard game 'ensued which was very even until the. second half, but towards the end, Waitakaruru proved to be in better fettle, and this turned the game in their favour. Noel Paton, as. five-eighth, scored one of his characteristic tries, which was converted by Bert O’Neil. Another try was scored by K. Coxhead, making the final total Waitakaruru 8, Kergpehi nil. , f >. ■ The Hauraki Plains Rugby Union’s selector was present in order to make his final selection for . the Peace cup elimination match between Hauraki Plajns and Waihi which is to be played at Waihi on Saturday. x Mr L. E. Smith of Ngfetea was referee.
