A VISIT TO PURIRI

COROMANDEL TEAM WINS

MATCH LAST SATURDAY

On Saturday, July 15, a team of players representing the Coromandel Table Tennis Club visited Puriri and played against members of that club. The respective teams were divided into four sections — men’s A, men’s B, ladies’ A and ladies’ B, four players representing their side in each section. Since it was not possible for Coromandel to provide sufficient lady competitors its team in the ladies’ B section comprised male members of the party. Play commenced at approximately 7,40 p.m. and continued until 10.30 p.m. when the power shutdown came into operation. Only one game remained unplayed and the results were as follows: —

Men’s A singles, Coromandel 27, Puriri 4. Men’s B singles, Coromandel 23,' Puriri* 9,’ Ladies’ A singles, Coromandel 23, Puriri 9. Ladies’ B singles, Coromandel 18, Puriri I’4. Following the cutting off of the electric f>ower alternative lighting was provided and a most enjoyable supper was partaken of. Mr A- Gillan s P oke on behalf of the Puriri club and expressed pleasure at being able to entertain the visitors who had come from so great a distance. Mr L. Bethel, Coromandel president, in reply thanked the members of the Puriri club for an enjoyable evening’s entertainment and expressed the hope Jhat they would visit Coromandel at some future date.
