PLAINS V. WAIHI

PEACE CUP ELIMINATION INTERESTING GAME SATURDAY What will probably be one of 4die most keenly fought Peace Cup elimination matches of the 1950 (season will be the match (between Hauraki Plains and Waihi Rugby union’s senior representative * teams which will be played at Rugby park at Wadihi on Saturday next.

Although Hauraki Plains comfortably defeated Waihi when they met a few weeks ago, Waihi were able to field only a scratch team on that occasion due to seven men being away with , the Thames Valley touring team and other players not available owing to.injury.

Hauraki Plains of course were similarly Weakened with players away with the, Thames Valley teaifi but they had the services of their captain Selly Fisher, while Waihi had their captain Johnny Mitchell, one of the best players in the Thames Valley today, away.

Waihi are feeling rather, confident regarding the outcome of Saturday’s match as they consider having won. the toss, a, three point advantage, and the fact that the match will be played on their* own ground worth a further . flva iJbintsz Waihi supporters and players claim that the Waitakaruru ground is a difficult one for visiting '/players being deceptive in its condi- , tion. , i Hauraki Plains are hoping that they wifi be able to again beat Waihi ,as it appears that.the holders of the Peace Chip this year, Thames, are not ,a. combination %nd the prospects of lifting this coveted trophy appear a possibility for anybody V securing , a game against the • present holders* .
