LONG SERVICE RECOGNISED

SUCCESSFUL DANCE AT TURUA

A most enjoyable evening was spent in the Turua hall recently, when the people of the Hauraki Plains sponsored a presentation dance in honour of Mrs Clark and Mr A. Whitehead. There was a very large attendance of well-wishers present and the whole evening went with a swing, all throwing themselves into the spirit of hap* piness which will long be remembered by Mrs Clark and Mr Whitehead. ,

The hall was artistically decorated with black and white streamers and music notes covering the walls. Across the back of the stage black and white streamers with music notes were arranged to represent a piano keyboard. Bowls of flowers were placed across the front of the stage.

Mr Herb Walker made an excellent M.C. and the catering was in the hands of Mr-Mules.

Just prior to supper being served Mr Walker escorted Mrs Clark and Mr Whitehead to the stage. Each was presented with a bouquet and a buttonhole by members of the “Cinderella Club.”

Mr C. K. Fox spoke on behalf of the public expressing gratitude for the way in which the two guests had so freely given of their time and had voluntarily assisted 1 in promoting the welfare of social life for the people of the Hauraki Plains. Mr Fox said they had been great helpers in the majority of functions held in the district and could always be called upon for any function-. Mr Fox then presented Mrs Clark with a chiming clock and Mr Whitehead with a writing desk. Musical honours were then accorded the two guests. Both then replied, each making reference to the great pleasure it had given them to provide music for the public. They expressed their appreciation for the manner in which the committee had Worked to make the evening a success. Mr Fox then thanked Mr (Herb Walker and his orchestra for their gratuitous services ami presented-Mrs Walker with a shoulder spray. Between dances items were given by Mr G. Miller (songs), Misses Ann Bryan, G. Miller and S. Geen (tap dance) and Mrs L. Schmidt (elocution). Those present were:— Mesdames B. Clark (Turua), A. Whitehead, N. Clark, B.
