SILVER WEDDING

ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATED MR & MRS A. THOMAS HONOURED A very jolly surprise party took place recently at Kopu when Mr and Mrs A. Thomas of Kopu celebrated their silver wedding anniversary. The party which was organised by their three sons was a complete surprise to Mr and Mrs Thomas and was attended by relatives and a few close friends.

Mr Thomas, who is the second son of Mr J. Thomas and the late Mrs Thomas of Hikutaia and now Kopu, spent all of his younger life in Hikutaia and Mrs Thomas, formerly Miss M. Roberts of Cambridge, resided for some years in Hikutaia. They were married in St. Mary’s Church, Hikutaia.

Mr and Mrs Thomas were the recipients of a silver tea service from their sons as well as a large number of individual presents. A very jolly evening was spent and after supper the handsome wedding cake iced in ivory with touches of silver and ornamented with a large ivory stork, was cut. The cake was made and iced by Mrs T. Corney, a sister of Mr Thomas.

The toast to the happy couple was proposed by a brother, Mr John Thomas, who wished them many long years of happiness, health and prosperity.

Mr Thomas replying on behalf of his wife and’ himself thanked their sons and everyone for the party which had been such a surprise and the kind thoughs which had prompted it, also for the fine gifts received. Near relatives present besides their three sons were:—Messrs H. Thomas, W. J. Thomas, L. Thomas, C. Thomas, (all brothers and of Auckland), and two sisters, Mrs W. Green of Omahu and Mrs T. Carney of Matatoki.
