PAEROA BAND
STATE OF FINANCES ■TREASURER’S REPORT SC COUNCIL Es ASSISTANC E Considerable assistance to ae " roa Municipal Band was given duMn> the past year by the Paeroa Borough Council according to the report of Mr M. C. Baker, town clerk and treasurer, which he presented to the April meeting of the council. Mr Baker stated that receipts in the band account amounted to £193 7/4. To that figure was added the grant from the council—£7B to meet the conductor’s salary—and £2OO subsidy towards the cost of purchasing new instruments. The amounts of both those grants were agreed upon by council during the past year. Payments incurred totalled £251 11/9 leaving a credit balance of £348 Early in the month of April it would be necessary to expend a considerable portion of that amount. Contest Expenses and instrument purchases would account for a great portion. It would be seen that during the year council’s assistance to the band had been quite substantial and the amount granted, namely, £278 was easily a record. However the council agreed last August that with tiie apparent increased interest in affairs of the band both by bandsmen and citizens, which heg resulted in a new look being given tn the band, the money was well spen^^ K
