KITCHEN EVENING

MISS N. McCOLLUM HONOURED LARGE NUMBER AT HIKUTAIA A large number of relatives and friends was present at the Hikutaia hall recently when a kitchen evening was tendered to Miss Neon McCollum of Hikutaia and Mr M. Green of Kopuarahi, on the eve of their marriage.

The evening was organised by the younger members of the Hikutaia community, and proved a most successful function, the guests of honour being the recipients of a number of useful gifts. Music was provided by the “Rhythm Trio,” and Mr B. Lowry was M.C. A dainty supper was provided and served by the ladies. ‘ Mr B. Lowry introduced the happy couple and requested them to open the array of gifts. In that pleasant duty they were assisted by one of the bridesmaids, Miss Helen Innis, and Mrs R. Innis.

Speaking on behalf of Neon and himself, Mr Green thanked all for their generosity in giving them such fine presents. He also thanked those who were responsible for organising the evening.

“ For they are jolly good fellows ” was sung, and dancing continued till midnight, when the evening came to a close with the singing of “ Auld Lang Syne.” Miss Neon McCollum wore a smart frock of green and wineberry shaded floral crepe-de-Chine, and her mother wore a frock of scarlet and white crepe. Mrs R. Green wore a frock of wine silk faille.
