FLOWERS AT TURUA

ANNUAL CHURCH SHOW ATTRACTIVE DISPLAY CHILDREN SHOW INTEREST The Turua Church of England Ladies’ Guild held their annual flower show in the Turua hall. The vicar, the Rev. A. B. Burton, opened the show and commended the good collection of flowers, especially after the storm a few days previously. He also spoke of the interest shown by the children in their sections. Thelma Allen won the award for the champion rose. Judges were: Flowers, Mr Harris; sweets, Mr Lewis; needlework, Mesdames Sydenham and Flint; vegetables, Mr Flint; children’s section, Mrs Keyes and Miss Irwin; cooking, Mr B. Miller. The stewards were Mesdames Bell and Treadaway. Stallholders were: Cooking, Mesdames Workman and McCollum; vegetables, Mesdames A. Green and W. Maunder; sweets, Mesdames F. Gray, N. Mitchell and H. Mules; sewing, Mesdames A. Sutton, R. Madgwick and R. Walters; afternoon tea, Mesdames Hicks and Whitehead and Misses Hicks' and B. Walters. The doorkeeper was Mr Bell.
