SETTLERS OUTLET

TENDERS CONSIDERED 1 .» HAURAKI PLAINS WEST AREA Tenders for the widening and deepening of Settlers outlet drain from the floodgate on the Piako river to the culvert on the main highway, a distance of 1 mile 361 chains, were considered by the Hauraki West Drainage Board at its July meeting. The chairman, Mr C. W. Parfitt, stated that as the drain dried up in the summer time it was, for several reasons, necessary to have the work proceeded with at once. That was the main consideration in the acceptance of any tender. It was moved by the chairman that the matter be left to Mr D. Waite and the chairman to ascertain which contractor could start the work first. An amendment to the motion was moved by Mr D. Dudding that consideration be given to the removal of the bank on the side of the drain, even if that meant holding up the work and the calling of fresh tenders. The amendment lapsed for want of a seconder and the motion was carried.
